The Studio Set contains a set of four in each hardness in the Contemporary Artist Marimba Mallet line. That’s five sets (ten pairs) in total, so you can easily create mixed sets based on your performance demands.
Contemporary Artist Marimba Mallets are built on BlueHaus exclusive, 42cm x 8.5mm Balanced Birch handles and wrapped with a 100% Peruvian highland wool yarn on a proprietary BlueHaus wheel core for excellent feel, beautiful sound, and durability.
You have a choice between smooth sanded handles without a finish coat or a hand applied coat of burnished linseed oil and beeswax. Burnishing protects against sweat and grime, doesn’t crack or chip, and can be reapplied.
Balanced Birch handles are natural wood handles with superior performance specs over traditional solid birch handles, and are engineered handle design, built, and milled in the Shop. The wood grain in traditional handles has variable strength and flex depending on the orientation of the handle during performance. When the wood grain in a traditional solid wood birch handle is parallel to the keys, the handle is more flexible in the stroke direction, but more stiff in lateral motion. And when the wood grain in vertical, the handle is stiffer in the direction of the stroke and more flexible in lateral motion. Balanced Birch handles have consistent feel and response regardless of stroke type, angle of attack, or movement.
Contemporary Artist Marimba Mallets work beautifully in mixed sets. I designed each hardness to have a performance envelope that blends with its neighboring hardness at the top and bottom of the dynamic curve. Additionally, the yarn wrap tension is graduated throughout the hardness spectrum. These mallets are beautiful instruments in their own right.
